Where is Miss Manners when you need her?

Dear Miss Manners,
For over a month now, I have been trying to make a decision. Recently, I have discovered that the actions that a "friend" took have solved my dilema. This creates a new question. Do I thank my friend? Noting that said friend had no knowledge of the issue causing me concern. What is the proper way to proceed?
Sincerely,
Confused

well you could always do something nice (nice note, flowers whatever) and say it's just because she's a good friend.
