"Winners never look to the past, except to learn from it. Rather, they make goals for the future and say, "Next time I will do better."
- Mary Crowley (Founder of Home Interiors & Gifts)
Yesterday was the first day of a new Weight Watchers series. It's an at work program, so it should be easier for me to fit into my crazy schedule. What's that got to do with the quote I started with? Everything!
One of my goals for this year was to finish my weight loss journey. After attending the meeting yesterday, and doing a lot of thinking last night, I'm altering that a bit.
The 30+ pounds I lost previously is a great thing. It's something to be proud of. It's something to learn from. But it's done. It's time to for a new journey.
What is my new weight loss destination? To go down 18 pounds. Ideally by the middle of May, but if it takes a little longer, it takes a little longer.
Why do I say ideally the middle of May? Tommy's AIT graduation date - May 22nd.
After 19 weeks of army training, he'll be in better shape by then, why shouldn't his mom?

What a Waste
Lyric of Carrie Underwood of the song “Wasted”
Standing at the back door
She tried to make it fast
One tear hit the hard wood
It fell like broken glass
She said sometimes love slips away
And you just can’t get it back
Let’s face it
For one split second
She almost turned around
But that would be like pouring rain drops
Back into a cloud
So she took another step and said
I see the way out and I’m gonna’ take it
I don’t wanna’ spend my life jaded
Waiting to wake up one day and find
That I’ve let all these years go by
Wasted
Another glass of whisky but it still don’t kill the pain
So he stumbles to the sink and pours it down the drain
He says it’s time to be a man and stop living for yesterday
Gotta face it.
Cause’ I don’t wanna’ spend my life jaded
Waiting to wake up one day and find
That I’ve let all these years go by
Wasted
Oh I don’t wanna’ keep on wishing, missing
The still of the morning, the color of the night
I ain’t spending no more time
Wasted
She kept drivin’ along
Till the moon and the sun were floating side-by-side
He looked in the mirror and his eyes were clear
For the first time in a while
Hey, yeah,
Oh, I don’t wanna’ spend my life jaded
Waiting to wake up one day and find
That I’ve let all these years go by
Wasted
Oh I don’t wanna’ keep on wishing, missing
The still of the morning, the color of the night
I ain’t spending no more time
Wasted
Oh, I don’t wanna’ spend my life jaded
Waiting to wake up one day and find
That I’ve let all these years go by
Wasted
Yeah, yeah
Oh I don’t wanna’ keep on wishing, missing
The still of the morning, the color of the night
I ain’t spending no more time
Wasted
Every picture of Heath Ledger that I see today brings this song to mind.
And the song makes me think. What am I waiting for? How much of my life have I wasted already? Why am I still wasting?
Standing at the back door

Weekend Update
I didn't freeze over the weekend.
I did finish No Great Mischief.
I did get a bunch of stitching done.
My stitch-a-thon totals for last week were....4.292 stitches and 1,555 minutes. Both of these were above my goal!
Here's some of the stitching that I did....
Part 1 of the Papillon Creations 2008 mystery chart.
January ornament. Design by Val's Stuff
I restarted the Carhop Betty that I'm stitching for a friend. This is the restart.
This is what Betty should look like when I'm done.

Could Somebody Turn Up the Heat?
The forecasted high for this weekend has gone down as the weekend grew closer. As of today, the high for tomorrow is suppose to be 0, Sunday 1. What's a girl to do?
Think I'll be doing some stitching and some movie watching...at least until football starts on Sunday. Check back Monday to make sure I didn't freeze, and to see what I accomplished on my stitching.

Music brings back memories...
I heard a song at lunch that made me think of my "baby boy".

Yellow Submarine by the Beatles might seem an odd song to remind someone of their child that was born in the second half of the 80s, but this one does.
When TK was little, we frequented a local resteraunt on a regular basis. We were there at least once a week. When we were there, we played the jukebox. It was always a surprise to find out what was going to play because the list wasn't quite right (you might hit E14 and get the song listed as A10). When Tommy got to pick, without fail, Yellow Submarine would come on. It got to the point that the cooks would hear the song and look for him. (We could only assume that nobody else played that song.)
When I heard the song at lunch to day, I couldn't help but smile and think of my little boy. Eyes misted a little, but smiled just the same.

SAT
This is the first Stitchathon week on the Cross Stitch Crazy board for 2008. When I did my goals for the year, they included 65,000 stitches and 18,750 minutes for SAT. This broke down to 3,500 stitches and 985 minutes for weeklong SATs. How am I doing so far?
Last night (Monday) I put in 550 stitches in 180 minutes. A little more than what I need per day to meet my goal.
More importantly, it was enough to finish my mini round robin from last year. It was a fall quilt clothes line. I'll post a picture as soon as I can get a good one.
EDITED: Don't want to start a new post each day for this, so will add my SAT counts to this post each day.
Monday - 550 stitches 180 minutes
Tuesday - 500 stitches 165 minutes
Wednesday - 189 stitches 75 minutes
Thursday - 566 stitches 200 minutes
Friday - 558 stitches 235 minutes
Saturday - 691 stitches 330 minutes
Sunday - 1,238 stitches 480 minutes
Total for the week - 4,292 stitches
1,555 minutes

Singing is the music nature makes....
I'm back to finishing Things I Overheard While Talking to Myself by Alan Alda. In the book Mr. Alda has the commencement speech that he gave at Caltech in 2002. I've gone back to part of this speech several times....
"WHY? Why should I do this impossible things?
Well, I don't know, maybe for the same reason that the birds sing.
If it does for you what if does for birds, there's a lot to recommend it:
1. It's a good way to improve your chances of having sex.
2. It feels good to sing.
3. Singing is the music nature makes when it dances the dance of life."
Now, I haven't exactly figured out what it is about this that keeps drawing me back. #3 especially causes me to stop. To stop and think. To stop and dream.
Will I figure out what it is about this? I don't know.
I do know that I'll be singing while I'm doing it.

with a twist.
On the Cross Stitch Crazy board, I am participating in an ABC with a Twist round robin. My piece is ready to go in the mail, so thought I'd post a pic of what it looks like leaving my hands.

It's going to be for Mom when it's done...am thinking a pillow, but will see what it says to me when it returns.

Hip?
Sorry V, but saw this quiz and thought of E, so had to take it (and share).
| You're Not Exactly a Hippie... |
![]() While you're not a hippie, you've got the spirit of one. Like most hippies, you have deep beliefs and unusual interests. You may not buy into hippie fashions, music, or heavy drug use. But at heart, you are a free spirit and suspicious of the status quo. |
Favorite.
Today’s SBQ is:
What was your favorite finish of 2007?
I had some finishes last year that I really liked, but what was my favorite. Since some of the finishes were sections of round robins (a house here, a design there, another house), I'm going to go with a "stand alone" piece. The Artist (DMC pattern) that I did for Love Quilts. And/or the water dragon (from Dragon Dreams)that I did for a friend. Both of these pieces were so much fun to stitch.

Division Playoffs
I went 0 & 4 on my Wild Card Picks. So what to do for the Division playoff games...do I go against who I want to win in hopes that I'll be wrong (thus the right team wins)? Or do I go with who I want to win and hope that all my wrong picks are used up? Decisions. Decisions. Decisions.
OK - I'm going to go with my real picks. Here they are...
AFC -
Jacksonville at New England. I can't stand Tom Brady, but would love to see Randy Moss (former Viking) get a ring. The only way that can happen is for the Patriots to win, so am going with New England.
San Diego at Indianapolis. Peyton. Going with the Colts.
NFC -
NY Giants at Dallas. Eli. Went against him last week and it bit me. Won't make that mistake again. Going with the Giants.
Seattle at Green Bay. I can't stand either team! Will go with the Packers - so I can see them get beat later.

What Month Is It?
Got a phone call from my mom a little bit ago. She's sitting in the dark, but is ok. What does that have to do with what month it is? She's in the dark beacuse Kenosha (WI) got hit with tornadoes this afternoon. Tornadoes in Wisconsin in January? What is going on?
Here's a link to the article from her local paper.
Hopefully things will be back to normal soon.

I'm having a hard time getting into the NFL playoffs (since my Vikings aren't in).
But, here are my picks for this weekend....
NFC - Redskins at Seahawks. Going with Washington - they got "our" wild card spot.
NFC - Giants at Buccaneers. Torn here. The Giants have Eli. The Bucs have Hovan. (Chris is a former Viking.) Have to go with Tampa Bay.
AFC - Jacguars at Steelers. Pittsburgh. Ben - need I say more?
AFC - Titans at Chargers. Have to go with Jeff Fisher and the Titans.
Will know tomorrow afternoon how I did on pickin' 'em.

Done Crying...
My baby boy left yesterday morning for MP training. (He joined the Army.) He's at Fort Leonard Woods Missouri for the next few months.
I got to spend some time with him Wednesday night. Here are a couple of pictures from Wednesday (ignore the date stamp - I mis-set the date when I changed batteries).

Crank it up!
There's a new Chris Cagle song that makes me crank the radio up. What is it?
What Kinda Gone
I heard the door slam, and I couldn't tell
Was it just the wind, or was she mad again? (aww hell)
She's gettin in her car. I holler "Baby, is there something wrong?"
Thought i heard her say something sounding like "i'm gone".
But these days gone can mean so many things.
Chorus:
There's gone for good, and there's good and gone
And there's gone with the long before it
I wish she'd been just a little more clear.
Well, there's gone for the day and gone for the night
And gone for the rest of your doggone life.
Is it whiskey night or just a couple beers.
I mean what I kinda' gone are we talkin' 'bout here?
Well, it's gettin' dark out, she ain't back yet
Ain't called home, turned off the phone. (aww man)
Ha, this might not be good. I woulda' stopped her when she went to leave
But I didn't call 'cause I didn't really think what I'm thinkin' now.
I'm still not sure what gone is all about.
Chorus:
There's gone for good, and there's good and gone
And there's gone with the long before it
I wish she'd been just a little more clear.
Well, there's gone for the day and gone for the night
And gone for the rest of your doggone life
Is it whiskey night or just a couple beers.
I mean what I kinda' gone are we talkin' 'bout here?
Is it the kinda' gone where she's at her moms?
Coolin' down, she'll come around
Or the kind that says you had your chance
And she ain't comin' back.
Chorus:
There's gone for good, and there's good and gone
And there's gone with the long before it
I wish she'd been just a little more clear.
Well, there's gone for the day and gone for the night

And gone for the rest of your doggone life
Is it whiskey night or just a couple beers.
I mean what I kinda' gone are we talkin' 'bout,
What kinda' gone are we talkin' 'bout,
What kinda' gone are we talkin' 'bout here?
What kinda' gone.
What's in a name?

![]() You are very open. You communicate well, and you connect with other people easily. You are a naturally creative person. Ideas just flow from your mind. A true chameleon, you are many things at different points in your life. You are very adaptable. You are truly an original person. You have amazing ideas, and the power to carry them out. Success comes rather easily for you... especially in business and academia. Some people find you to be selfish and a bit overbearing. You're a strong person. You are wild, crazy, and a huge rebel. You're always up to something. You have a ton of energy, and most people can't handle you. You're very intense. You definitely are a handful, and you're likely to get in trouble. But your kind of trouble is a lot of fun. You tend to be pretty tightly wound. It's easy to get you excited... which can be a good or bad thing. You have a lot of enthusiasm, but it fades rather quickly. You don't stick with any one thing for very long. You have the drive to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Your biggest problem is making sure you finish the projects you start. You are the total package - suave, sexy, smart, and strong. You have the whole world under your spell, and you can influence almost everyone you know. You don't always resist your urges to crush the weak. Just remember, they don't have as much going for them as you do. |
I'll be back later with photos of 3 finishes (only 15 to go to complete the plan), my 2008 goals, and the last picture of my DS before he left for basic training.
